Counselling

Engaging in counselling is a way of accessing independent support with issues you are experiencing, which is confidential and free of judgement. As our society has become more open to talking about anxiety and depression, people have increasingly turned to counselling, as a way of improving their well-being. The issues which bring you to counselling may be long-term difficulties which cause problems in your relationships, sense of fulfilment at work or with your general well-being. Equally, you may just feel that you are searching to reach your potential and would like to explore ways to achieve this.

As an integrative counsellor, I am skilled at using a range of counselling and psychotherapy approaches. In our counselling sessions, we will work collaboratively, and you will have the space to explore the issues that you feel are important. I will communicate an acceptance of where you are now – and where you would like to be.

We will find the best approach for you, depending on your way of understanding the issues bringing you to counselling. For example, our sessions can help you to understand your attachment style and how this affects your relationships, or why you may have developed a pattern of damaging self-beliefs which inhibit your growth. For clients experiencing debilitating anxiety, including panic attacks, we will use cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and mindfulness-based approaches, to support you to find effective coping skills for living, before addressing the longer-term causes. Throughout this process, we will focus on helping you to develop your ability to think for yourself – and about yourself – differently.

Choosing to enter counselling can seem a daunting prospect

I understand the importance of feeling comfortable and safe in the relationship with your counsellor. If you would like to give this a try, I would encourage you to make contact with me either by email or phone and I can call you at a convenient time for you.
